The Moorish Temple, Elvaston (NC266)
This unusual building was built as a summer house for the Fourth Earl of Harrington in the mid 19th century in the grounds of Elvaston Castle, dedicated to the great love of his life, Maria Foote. Originally designed by William Barron, it was featured in the 1969 film ‘Women in Love’ directed by the late Ken Russell. It has been fully restored since I painted this watercolour.
