Coldwall Bridge spans the River Dove several miles downstream from Dovedale. I painted this view looking down towards the bridge from the Derbyshire side, below the village of Thorpe, the route once being an important coaching road but fell into disuse after early motor vehicles struggled to climb up the steep hill beyond the bridge into Staffordshire.
