Belper River Gardens, Derbyshire (NC 278)
Beautiful recreational gardens that are situated next to the River Derwent and were created for the mill workers of the nearby massive North Mill in Belper, Derbyshire. The original cotton mill in Belper was set up by Jedediah Strutt in the 1770’s (who initially worked in partnership with Sir Richard Arkwright at Cromford Mills) to mass produce cotton stockings (one of the Derwent Mills World Heritage Sites). He was also responsible for using the first steel frames in the construction of tall factory buildings and his son, Joseph, created the first ever public recreation park in Derby (Arboretum).
