Across the Valley from Stanage Edge (NC 452)

Across the valley from Stanage Edge, painted in oils on board, the first painting of a series of twelve that I produced over several weeks, all based on one day in October 2025 when the meteorological storm ‘Amy’ was sweeping across the UK blowing down trees and causing lots of damage and injuries. My wife and I were camping at nearby North Lees that weekend and during a break in the persistent rainfall we managed to walk some distance along Stanage Edge whilst being battered by the gale-force wind and intermittent rain squalls. The views were spectacular, made even better by the amazing effects of sunlight through breaks in the cloud cover.
