From Stanage Edge, Peak District (NC 462)

From Stanage Edge VII, Peak District, is a large oil on canvas studio painting depicting sun rays pouring through heavy cloud over the landscape near to Hathersage. The gritstone edge is a formidable sight if viewed from below but the views from the top are breathtaking at any time of the year. This scene depicts a day in early October 2025 when the UK was hit with the first major storm of the autumn (Storm Amy) and it caused significant damage especially to nearby trees in this locality. I’ve tried to get the effects of strong sunlight in this painting in contrast to the wet and windblown foreground.
